Nightguards & Sportsguards
Create Your Custom Nightguards and Sportsguards in Edmonton
Find solutions for teeth grinding and protection during sports participation with nightguards and sportsguards from Saddleback Dental Centre. We will find custom solutions to ensure your comfort. Saddleback Dental Centre will take an impression of your teeth and create a custom-fit, bite-absorbing plastic nightguard that can be used day or night. We find that patients are unable to control the clenching and grinding behavior during their sleep and many times don’t even realize it’s occurring.
Avoid Serious Dental Problems with Nightguards
Constantly grinding your teeth can lead to serious dental problems as it wears down your biting surfaces and misaligns your bite. In severe cases, frequent clenching and grinding can cause the entire jaw to move out of balance. Known as bruxism, this condition is more prevalent among women and affects nearly one-third of the population. Chronic stress and high-pressure situations can lead to clenching or grinding. In some cases, bruxism is caused by a conscious attempt to force the upper and lower teeth to touch at all times.
Prevent Tooth Trauma and Injuries with Sportsguards from Saddleback
Soft rubber mouthguards are a requirement in many contact sports to prevent injuries. In fact, it is estimated that mouthguards prevent over 200,000 injuries each year in high school and hockey alone.
The professionals at Saddleback Dental Centre have experience creating custom fitting sportsguards to be worn in athletic and recreational activities to protect your teeth. These flexible appliances made of plastic can prevent serious injuries that occur when the lower jaw gets jammed into the upper jaw, including:
- Concussions
- Cerebral hemorrhages
- Incidents of unconsciousness
- Jaw fractures
- Neck injuries
We Create Comfortable and Effective Edmonton Nightguards
You may suffer from bruxism if you have the following symptoms:
- Sensitivity in teeth & gums
- Jaw pain
- Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain
- Popping & clicking of jaws
- Tense muscles
- Headaches
- Excessive wear or flatness of teeth
- Worn enamel
- Partially exposed & sensitive tooth interior (dentin)
- Tongue indentations
Wearing The Right Sportguard
If there is a chance for contact with other participants or hard surfaces, Saddleback Dental Centre advises wearing a sportsguard. Consider the following options.
Stock Sportsguard
This is the lowest cost option and the least effective as it offers minimal protection because the fit adjustment is limited. The stock sportsguard may interfere with speech and breathing because it requires the jaw to be closed to hold it in place. This is not considered acceptable as a facial protective device.
Mouth-Formed Protectors
This boil-and-bite product is lined with acrylic or rubber. When placed in your mouth, the protector’s lining material molds to your teeth and is allowed to set.
Custom Made Mouth Protector
Saddleback Dental Centre can custom make a sportsguard for you. This appliance offers the best protection, fit and comfort level as it is made from a cast to fit your teeth.
